What is switchgrass? It is a perennial grass native to North America and one of the dominant species of the tallgrass prairie that grows up to 8 feet. It is considered a viable candidate for biomass production as well as feed and animal bedding being inexpensive to produce and its ability to grow on marginal land. Switchgrass is grown and harvested in a similar way to hay crops with the added benefit of not needing sprays or fertilizer to thrive. Our bedding product is cut in the fall allowing it to lay in windrows to strip it of its nutrients and then baled in early spring when it's ready for processing.
